Considerations When Choosing a Home Fitness Gym

One of the biggest advantages to buying a home fitness gym is having a gym always available, twenty four hours a day. Instead of working out among strangers, which some people find uncomfortable, you can exercise at home, in private. Make sure you take into account the points here before you buy your home gym so that you can be sure you make a wise decision.

Things to Take into Consideration

  • do you have enough room in your home? A large amount of space plus a firm base is needed for your home fitness gym.
  • How much do you want to pay? Home gyms can cost from below $500 to more than $5000 for a high quality multi gym.
  • Do you want a free weight-based gym or one that uses cables, rods or built-in weights for resistance?

Advantages and Disadvantages of Home Fitness Gyms

With a home gym you can, of course, work out in private in your own home, the gym is always available and you won’t have to wait until someone else finishes before you can do your training. Unlike a club your home gym is never shut and once paid for you won’t have regular fees to pay. These are considerable advantages but take into account the disadvantages too. Some home gyms may be hard to set up initially and can take up a good amount of space. It may be easier to keep up an exercise routine at a gym among other people or with a personal trainer. A machine at home is always available and it’s easy to put off using it to another day!

Choosing a Home Fitness Gym

The most important consideration, in our opinion, is how well made the unit is. Purchasing a cheap, flimsy gym that is not going to last very long or be good for training is not a good idea. This isn’t a money saver over a long period. Look for a gym that is well made, preferable using 11 or 12 gauge steel tubing. In better quality gyms the joints are welded rather than bolted and they use strong, heavy duty tubing. If possible look for a gym with a long warranty. Some of the better quality, expensive home gyms have lifetime warranties but a minimum to look for is probably 3 years on upholstery and parts.

When you have identified a gym within your budget ensure that it is easy to adjust and use. Some gyms are awkward to use as changing exercises and resistance is difficult. Look for one that make this easier. You can easily be put off from working out if this is hard to do or takes too long. Home fitness gyms should be comfortable with seats that are padded well and can be cleaned easily. This is also for safety reasons as you need good padding on leg presses and seats, and solid durable handgrips to prevent injury and blisters.

Conclusion

If you are buying a total home gym don’t rush out and buy the first one you see. If possible try out your chosen gym at the store or a local gym and find out as much about how it works as you can. Take your time as this is a quite large investment of your time and money and you don’t want to make a rash decision.
